I like the job Dragoon, however since ive been told by just about everyone that we have been gimped so much that playing one is a bad idea since all the good dps falls elsewhere. Warrior, sam, and other DD jobs have other functions then just pure DD. Dragoons cannot tank, they do not place severely high in Damage output, and are generally otherwise outclassed by the other jobs. End Game no one wants them. Yet, at the same time, Dragoons are fun to play with and the af looks great on my taru. Has anyone heard of any rumors to upgrade dragoons for end game? Because I would really like to be part of the end game experience and actually wanted by multiple parties. And i'd prefer to do that without WHM.

I'd say you won't get flooded with invites on dragoon, nor will you feel immensely useful in parties. While dragoons can do top-tier damage in exp (not noticed as much since they specialize in shedding hate and spreading damage to around between them and their wyvern), they don't assist the other members of an exp party very much. Aside from Double Thrust (the first WS you get), they don't have many skillchain options until 65+, and by then the (false) mindset is established that they're not so great. Samurais facilitate skillchains which make black mages happy. In addition, a smart samurai can take some hits (with saigon) if a tank is struggling. Warriors ARE tanks for a while, until around level 40 when they start to come into their own as a DD-only job with off-tank abilities. It's hard to compare.
On the other side of things, dragoons make one of the best soloing DD jobs in the game (except maybe drks now?). Healing breath is seriously hax. Also, Dragoons are relatively cheap to fund since they don't make use of the more pricey body pieces (Scorpion Harness, Haubergeon). This comes at the price of the eternal "LFG", as anyone who's leveled a strictly DD job knows.
I would advise trying to pick another power-house DD job instead. Warrior, Monk, Samurai, Ninja would be my first choices. But even monk and samurai have trouble with invites sometimes, and warrior too. Ninjas only get invite spams because they tank.
But if you want to be a really desired job, play a mage. White mage, red mage, bard, corsair, blue mage - all these jobs get invites way too fast, and aren't that expensive to fund (compared to getting great DD gear, which can make you poor very fast).
That's just my take on it though. I'm really biased because I can't stand LFG for more than an hour or two, it just feels like wasting time. If you really like dragoon, though, play it. But make sure you plan to form your own parties, lest you be forced to deal with eternal LFGing.

Well... first of all, i have never heard anyone say that, i've only ever heard ppl say they've heard ppl say that. They've been "balanced" twice... once, their infinite tp was removed, cause its infinite tp and was an oversight by SE. The second time, they were beefed up by getting an actual two hour, and able to summon their wyverns every 20 mins.
Dragoons are one of the best damage dealers in game, AND they don't get hate thanks to their high jump and super jump. Polearms are frickin awesome at skillchaining... almost everything makes distortion off of a polearm, and if theres a paladin with you you can make Fusion. If you go /sam, your tp is gross. I'd take a dragoon ANY day of the week over the most pimped out monk. Play ninja only if you're willing to sink gil into the elemental wheel. Warriors are okay i guess, but i encounter them so rarely i couldn't really comment on them.
At end-game, dynamis wise anyways... warrior and dragoon you'll have very little competition for relic. Whereas on redmage, I almost always have 8 ppl competing against me, and thats in a relatively small linkshell. At endgame, it doesn't matter what DD jobs can do besides the fact... they are just plain ol' DD, nothing more. And dragoon is even better in that regard, cause you will not be stealing hate from the tank.
Is there a point to playing dragoon? If you get something out of it. If you don't like whitemage, don't play it. Will people want dragoon? Sure. They need 3 random dds to make a party. But since most of the jobs in the game are DD, how often you get a party depends on how many are seeking at your level, and what your rank is.
In all honesty, if you want to know what dragoon is like end-game... get it to end-game.

Only times i ever had a prob with drg is after they join the pt and that particular person ends up phailing at life. but thats not a drg thing, thats just a player thing. Other than that I've seen drgs do nice dmg, you just have to take into account that little flying rat next to them that's picking away at the mob the whole time.
