So yeah, I'm tired of disconnecting every five minutes, and R0-ing every 3 seconds, I can't get anything done with anybody, and when I start something, I can't do it without lagging to hell. So until I figure out a way to fix this for me, I'm going to be taking a little break from FFXI... See you guys when I get back up and running.

Are you sure it's the ISP that is causing problems? If so, perhaps you should concider a new one. Optimum Cable is the best.

I can't get cable here, I live in an apartment complex and the owners won't put a cable box in for anyone to use. I don't know why not, but it fucking sucks. I'm stuck with satellite internet for God knows how long. I'm not happy with it at all, but it's the only thing I've got, so I'm stuck with it.

...It also doesn't help that I live in one of the cloudiest states in the US... yay Michigan... smiley

I had the same problem when I moved into this place, the cable company was cheap and didn't offer internet.  I just got DSL.  It works all the freakin time, not quite as fast i don't think, but I never have any probs.  Oh, and you don't D/C all the time krash.... only at the cruicial moments before entering a BC fight.  Tongue

Anyway, don't give up man, you'll make me go into withdrawal symptoms lol.

DSL is the best you can get. its your own line.

Cable can be faster then a standard DSL connection. but all your bandwidth is shared wth everyone in your neiborhood.  so lots of ppl on means slow net.

both are hard wired connections.  both are better then any type of wi-fi wireless, satelite system.  but, if you go that rout go with a tier 1 provider.  not a subletter.  tier ones own the lines in the groung in your area. and you go from your place to the them then out to the net.  a subletter, rents lines from a tier one, so you go the the subletter, then the tier one and out.  generally they are cheaper but being so have lower quality.  AoL is a subletter, MSN is a sub letter.  i think Bell south (or what ever its called there is a tier1 oe primary carrier.  it might cost u $5-10 more per month but it means alot less hassels.

Ya, I used to have cable here.  We used to play Quake (one) like 6 hours a day, but it was so frickin chuggy, stuff would stop suddenly then load everything up, PL sucked... then, after yelling at the cable company for a couple weeks, we got a free month of dsl from our phone company, everything cleared up perfectly, and I got to pwn everyone i came across.

Well, I've got some bad news. Was looking into the DSL thing, and brought it up with my mom, and I got hit with a fistfull of bad news. Aparently when you sign up for Speednet(Satellite ::hangs self:: ) they make you sign a contract. And so I'm stuck with it for two years. Unless I want to pay $250 to break off the contract.... ::pulls out a machine gun:: ...Time to go ISP employee hunting...

Shocked Holy fuck... they make you sign a contract?  But seriously... if you can't even use their shit thing, might as well break that damn contract.  Or read it... see if it says anything about guarenteed good service.  Cause seriously... your paying for something to work, and its not... you shouldn't be paying for it.  And I seriously doubt theres any contract tahts completely one-sided, nobody would sign it.  Well... I suppose lots of people would sign it, cause they didnt read it.  But just look through it, see what it actually says.

Those contracts are usually pritty weak. I'll see if there isn't a way around speednet's.
