I'm bored, so I'm making a thread.  Try and stop me!
Just had my first Besieged taste today... btw, if you didn't know, 749 ppl and a shitload of mobs = lag.  Yup, I know, astonishing, but its true.  Not knowing where party members are, not being able to move, not knowing if spells went off or not... very annoying.  But, through the mass of confusion and bodies and healing and death and raises, we managed a victory!  Cheesy

Heres some glowy-thingy... I think blueish-green means we won.

Heres our leader... I think... hard to tell, they didn't give much warning, just said "non-coms flee the vicinity!", or something to that effect.

I didn't take any screenshots of the fight itself... cause, well... its just ppl standing around doing nothing, and mobs doing the same >_>     Hopefully other ppl had a better experience than me.  Speaking of experience, i got 610 cheesy   and imperial standing!

I wish the monsters were a little easier to hit. I think I spent about 20 minutes swinging at a mob and hit it maybe 5 or 6 times. It seemed everyone else was having the same problem considering it was down to like 90% health.. so I gave up and fought something else, lol.

Tips:

-Least laggy place is the big area by the Whitegate zone.

-Dont charge in. Wait a few mins to let the mobs spread out. Helps reduce lag.

-RR items are your friends.

-some acc problems might be because of a mob's abiliy. Point in case, the lizards have a evasion up abilitiy.

-try to stay with your party.

i find the mobs extremely hard to kill....everyone would go like *yawn* etc or would end but feel nothing much was done...none of my debuffs would land...except for very rare occasions of gravity since i hv merit on wind acc + enfeeb...my thunder III does 100 dmg the most...often resisted >.>...that applies to blm nukes too i find..correct me if i'm wrong...and melee...i can't hit it...period LOL

to get good exp + imperial standing...get a pt and form an alliance Tongue
that's like 700 exp + 700 imperial standing guaranteed

oh and do not hped when u died..there are usually some nice ppl around raising ppl...if u hp u lose all urs/ ur pt's kill counts and u'll get very little exp

if you plan on doing besieged enter zone then log out of the game. use the FFXI config program and turn sounds off.  this will reduce your lag by a good 40%  also a good idea to reduce your screen resolution by one size.

as for the fighting.... depending what you are fighting, do not do max dmg. AOE will get you killed. big WS's will get you killed.  these mobs are XL-IT++ they are pretty insanely tough.  be patient.  if you are a whm or mage period u get rewards for just curing.  but again spaming will get u killed.  avoid bad mobs. ie. dont fight bombs.  i do cause i am a rdm.  but i can survive.  most melees will not.  if you drop to less then 40% hp. retreat and get a cure.  or rest.  besieged doesn not happen fast.  resting for a few minutes can mean you live as oppesed to getting killed.  avoid the choke points at the walls above the main combat area.  that is were the greatist player/mob density is.  moving in past casting range will reduce lag.

how do you know if you have decent resonable lag.... you might see your casting animation 3-7 secs after you expect the speel to have been cast.

lol yeah, max dmg is definately not the way to go.  It'll either get you killed or just waste all you mp.  I used my max elemental magic gear, elemental seal, then did blizzaga III for a whopping 235 dmg.  >.<  Yeah..... maybe next time I'll just heal.  Oh wait, maybe there won't be a next time.  I died once, and it took about 40 seconds for me to actually realize it, so {Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass}.

Second Besieged, second victory Cheesy

Actually got a good party this time, so was a lot funner.  Took Saaf's advice and turned off sounds, and there wasnt so many ppl in the zone this time, so lag wasnt much of an issue.  It was still there, but it wasnt crippling or anything.  Despite two deaths, managed to get 700xp, and more Imperial Standing cheesy

Spent the entire time just curing, refreshing me and the whm, and raising any corpses who popped up on my screen.  Tried some debuffs, but wasnt really accomplishing much.  Towards the end we were just fighting one big ass lammia boss, who had to be like level 85 or something... there were like 3 level 70-75 parties that I could see wacking at the thing for 4 minutes, and it was only down to 2/5 hp... hit me once, for about 280-380 (forget actual number....i just remember it hurt), and that was through a fresh stoneskin and phalanx.  Got rid of hate quick, tho.

Check out this guy's mug!

Fear me you will, great power I have!  Sound familiar?  Rent a movie.  We'll get back to him later... right now, check out these.

Thats gotta hoit!

Gramatical error ftl!
Btw... the charmers can turn you into a frog XD  unfortunately there were so many damn ppl in the zone that even MY computer was horribly lagging out, and i coudlnt get a screenshot of it.

Anyways, heres our boy Gulool Ja Ja again.

Ichi?!  Ahahaha he suxxors

Right after that, his men started retreating!  So what's he do?

Ya... never seen a mob do that before.

Anyways, here was the result.

Not too shabby.  And didn't take all that long for a level 6.

I had to scale them down to fit on your puny monitors!

Tried it again... trolls attacked this time... level 6 again... here was our eventual target... he got away though, you'll find out why after you see the pic.

Ya... he works for that goblin... i wonder who runs Arrapago...
anyways... he uses a move called Arcane Stomp.
And it makes him Magic Shield.
...they really need to fix that typo >_< lol...
Anyways... everything except Drain heals him instead of damages him... i *think* it can be dispelled, but he used it like 4 times in a row at one point cause a couple 75 rdm's started spamming dispel on his ass... i tried, but it got resisted Sad  And his hp kept going up cause he either had auto-regen or black mages kept booming him without looking at their chat logs.  We won the battle, but he got away wtih like 86% hp Sad   the two-headed guy was down to ~50% at least, and my alliance didnt even touch him until like two minutes before the besieged ended.

Umm.... what was my point... Elemental Seal + Drain him.

Also, one of the temporary items i got this time was a "reset all job abilities" one cheesy

Hey sorry for the spam, but more level 6 besieged action!

guess who's back?  The two-headed yoda!

Unfortunately in this battle, the lag was HORRENDOUS (possibly due to some maintenance)... also the nm's were all gathering together and working as a team sorta.  Well, as much as npcs can... heres an example!

Apparently benediction DOES have a cap... I did not know that... nor did i want to... its an assumption, but thats the evenest number ever so I'm feeling confident in assuming.
Anyways, after two minutes of my alliance fighting one mob each, i got them to gang up on the WHM and they took him out in no time.  Then they split up again... but w/e as long as that stupid battery pack was dead.

Anyways... the point of mentioning lag...

Its never a good sign for me to actually be in that building... ya, the three generals died cause nobody could load them to heal.  But I dont think any mobs actually got to the gate, we were holding them in the Ulthalam Parade.  We got Gulool down to ~20% hp, tho I didnt really help with the actual damange.  Wanna see why?  Of course you do.

I had max HP... so I'm hoping its from that resistance to magic weaponskills thing that nms get.  So I just resigned myself to being a walking battery pack.  However, I was running low myself, and was out of convert, so was running back to the bard who for some reason kept hiding at the far end of the courtyard unless I started begging for her to ballad the pld, drk, and whms, when this happened...

Btw, if you're dead when besieged ends, you don't get xp.  You DO get the imperial standing tho, so it wasnt a total loss.

You know, somewhere down the line, one of the developers must have known how cramming 200 people and like 30 NPCs in one area would effect data sending and recieving.

Seriously. There has to be some way to make more than five other players appear on screen and not have your R go past 2000. Maybe I'm just too used to WoW...

No, my computer does not suck, and yes, I am playing on broadband.

All in all, it's still kinda fun. Except I can't hit anything.

Yeah, that stuff with the healing bugs me, i can't heal alliance members.  Bout the only ppl i can target are party members and random ppl that pop up on the screen.  But hell, i might not heal as much anymore.  I mean, Thunder IV only does about 230 ish dmg i think, but with these new items i can cast that spell like 10 times lol.
