Well after listening to a bunch of ppl talk about spyware problems and DC issues that maybe caused by such.  I will make a link and try to update it on tips and tricks to remove, disable and protect against spyware and the like.  ill be updating this for the next week or so as i have free time.

my basic strategy is simple and effective. i DL alot, torrents and hacks, and no-cd exe's. , not to mention a huge porn collection.  so yes. i am aprime canidate for maleware. i used to have a huge problem with it.  not anymore.

1) First and formost, GET RID OF IE!  internet explore is teh 3vil. i use Firefox Mozzila[/span]. is nice easy and has better features.  but most importantly there is little to no targeted maleware for it. and has better protection built in.

2) Get spyware removers and preventors, USE THEM AND UPDATE THEM. if i can keep my 9yr old nieces PC clean. you can keep your PC clean. All of these utils are FREE!

here is an old, but still valid problem that maybe plagueing some of you.  its called a messenger POP-UP.  its a built in windows function for system admin's to send messages to ppl on a network. except that MS was idiotic and left it wide open.  but luckily it is easy to fix.
***  got to Control Panel. > Administrative tools > Services  this will open a window will all the system services you have running.  select messenger and RIGHT-CLICK > select properties > unser START-UP TYPE select DISABLED.  this is not MSN MESSENGER, your chat programs will not be effected.

/agreed, FireFox is gewd. You can still keep IE installed, too, in case you need to use a website that doesn't use firefox

I'd add Spysweeper to the list, but they only offer a trial.
