You are in the PenaltyBox.

Until 02/05/2005 11:47 PM

On 02/03/2005, the computer that you are using to view this webpage was observed exceeding the maximum allowed transfer limit. This computer is now in the PenaltyBox. This means that your bandwidth will be heavily restricted. You are given only enough bandwidth to use the Internet for academic purposes. You will remain in the PenaltyBox for 48 hours from the time of your violation.

I am capped at 48k... so yea, please be patient as the boards load.

Note: this is probably due to the large files i sent omni over AIM, not from the webserver.

Yeah, for those of you who dont know what the Penalty Box is, I'll explain.
Then penalty box is a menial and annoying tool for incompatent network administrators to make your life suck while waisting massive ammounts of bandwidth. If you go above their quota per computer, or use something they don't like (namely P2P) they reduce your bandwidth to about 3-5kbps download for 48 hours ><
This system sucks ass to begin with, but now lets examine their accuracy. I've been placed in the P-box 9 times for using P2P software ... I do not have any P2P software installed on my computer.

I've tried writing letters reccomending intellegable alternatives and improvements to the network but they aparently didn't understand them.

Ok, I'm supposed to be out of the penalty box, but I'm still in it, sorry guys. Not much can be done until monday to fix this. But on Monday I'll probably also be getting and installing my new case and power supply.

Actually he can be put into the penalty box for being connected to too many other computers on the internet at once. So if we got alot of hits at a given moment that would throw him in.

Why would I deny looking at porn? That's a normal human activity.

Well I wouldn't call it a "human" activity as there is nothing in human nature reguarding pornography, however I agree that looking at porn is totally normal.

I guess that could be debated, but I'm tired. From looking at too much porn.

Well, I'm finally out again, and I also got specific details on what gets me in....

Total connection per minute ----- >= 250
Failed connections per minute --- >= 100
Server connections per minute --- >= 175
Client connections per minute --- >= 175
Total bytes transferred per day - >= 2 GB

So, as long as I keep those numbers under contol, there is no problem Smiley

Not at all. Web server software can set a limit to how many connections you make at a given moment, and refuse any connections after that. It's actually pritty easy.
