Leveling crafts or a deciple of hand first will allow you to reach higher level of crafting faster. Leveling crafting faster means you might stand a chance of making your own equipment eventually. Also, crafting gives insane physical exp.

You will still need a regular job to get money, though.

If you do the main quest chain thingy, it will start you out with about 30k gil or so, nice little buffer for an aspiring crafter.

They changed it..
it's only 9k in total now..

but yes crafting lvls up fast.. and i find you dont' really have to invest in grinding... just visit all 3 cities and do all the local quests for your craft that should get your 1 or 2 lvl each time if you do all the local quests for that specific craft available to you.. they give you the materials to these quests and the rewards include money + some basic craft items + shards that could usually get your started crafting your own items..

Just make sure to craft all the materials they give you despite you may not need them all, each successful craft should give you about 300 skill points and around 1300 exp points.. so each leve quest, if you succeed in making all the items, will give you at least 1200 to 1500 skill points and 6000 exp points... if you port to all 3 cities you should be able to get 5-6 local leves each day for each craft (you are capped at 8.. but local leves are separate from regional leves) I have around 3 crafts at around lvl 8 just from doing local leves.. probably only spending like 3 hours in total ...

same with gathering.. leve is the way to go in terms of lvling.. actually.. i think in general leve quest is the way to go for any kind of lvling..especially none of us is really hardcore player anymore

I haven't even had time to go to other cities yet. I generally have enough time to do all the leves in each camp before I have to log off. And even then... I have rank 8 carpenter and blacksmith and physical level 14

Yah and the higher crafter you are the more leves are available to you cos you can do the rank 1 and rank 5 leves..and eventually higher ones.. another advise is to use the camp facilities to ensure success of your crafts..

On a related note, I'll be making some generally newbie items for sale to prepare for the official launch tomorrow lol.. if you need low lvl weaver items or goldsmith accessories i should be able to craft you some to give you a head start.. just let me know Cheesy

Well, crafting might be easier. Implemented a "fix" today where you fail too much in crafting.
