The release date for FFXIV has been announced! September 30, 2010 is the date you can start playing it. Though, this date is the PC release only. Expect March of next year for the PS3 release.

Check if your PC can run the game with the official FFXIV Benchmark: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/na/

I did it on the high resolution, which was too large for my screen, and [edit] I received a 1509. [/EDIT].

I just finished it on the low resolution and received:

Score: 1861
Load Time: 24171 ms
Win7 Professional, 64bit
AMD Phenom 96000 Quad Core, 2.3 GHz
ATI Radeon HD4850

I HIGHLY recommend everyone run this, if for no other reason than to see the awesomeness of it!

It appears I will be needing a new video card finally:

[8000 and over] Extremely High Performance
Easily capable of running the game on the highest settings.

 [5500–7999] Very High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform exceptionally well, even at higher resolutions.

 [4500-5499] High Performance
Easily capable of running the game. Should perform well, even at higher resolutions.

 [3000-4499] Fairly High Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings. Consider switching to a higher resolution depending on performance.

 [2500-2999] Standard Performance
Capable of running the game on default settings.

 [2000-2499] Slightly Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but may experience some slowdown. Adjust settings to improve performance.

 [1500-1999] Low Performance
Capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown. Adjusting settings is unlikely to improve performance.

 [Under 1500] Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.

I read that there are issues with ATI cards and the benchmark, specifically that the windowed app only uses the 2D speed settings.

I flashed my 4850 bios to make the 2D speed settings equal to the 3D settings, and it did not make any difference.

Watching my computer trying to run that was like watching a morbidly obese quadruple amputee with diarrhea trying to run a marathon. I'll need a whole new machine before I can play. I'll probably just play on PS3 when that comes out instead.

I was looking for an excuse to upgrade my video card, so I just did.  I replaced my ATI 4850 with a new ATI 5830...which is much faster.

My score went from a low 1861 to a staggering 1915.  I can truthfully say the benchmark is all but useless.

One thing I did notice is the graphics looks MUCH nicer on the 5830 than on the 4850.  Far more detail.

I have overclocked my 5830 by 16%.  I cannot go much higher without losing stability.

While doing the 1080 version, I watched the GPU utilization the entire time.  The highest usage was when it displayed the Square Enix logo...it hit 99% utilization at that time.

During the topside fighting scenes, it averaged in the low 80's.  Is FFXIV DX11?  The visuals were FAR FAR FAR nicer using the 5830 over the 4850.

The 1080 test looked smooth, no slowdowns at all.

I also watched my CPU utilization during the test, and several times all 4 cores hit 100%.

My guess is this benchmark is not optimized.  The only time it should have ever taxed the CPUs like that was on initial loading.  The CPU should not be hit to often, that is what the GPU with 1 GB GDDR5 RAM is for.

I got like a 1650 on my desktop (Pretty shitty ~2ghz dual core AMD 4200+, nVidia 9800 GT, 2 GB 200mhz DDR1 memory smiley windows xp 32 bit).

Putting Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop...going to see how that runs.

So my laptop scored a whopping 271.

Yay for getting a new computer before it comes out!
