Well I'm maybe a little over an hour in, and I probably could have gotten this far with a blindfold. What the hell. Not that I would want to, the game is pretty (when I'm not fighting with the camera).

Vanille's voice is very annoying. I was playing it the other night and my bf was doing something else, then after a couple of CS with Hope and Vanille screaming, he walked over and was like how come it sounds like they are having sex all the time..
I don't like the fact that I can only control 1 person at a time in fights.
It is pretty though, storyline is pretty linear so far..

I'm 12 hours in so far. The story line is just awful. It is a never ending state of emergency. In all of the other FF games you will go on a mission, go to town, do your own thing, work on side quests, resume the plot whenever you want. In FFXIII there are no freaking towns. You are constantly working on the plot and it doesn't give you a second to do anything else. It gets very tedious.

A few more comments: On the good side, the graphics are absolutely mind-blowing. It's simply beautiful.
I love the battle system, but I hate the total lack of equipment and what you can do with it. There is almost no character customization.
The AI is completely retarded. It usually picks the right action, but almost never picks the right target.
The major points in the plot in which characters reveal something or realize something are incredibly awful. They are forced, poorly motivated, poorly explained, if at all, and just feel completely artificial.
The plot still sucks. 15 hours in and I am completely sick of running away.

In a time where storyline in a game is usually an afterthought, I'll take what I can get. Though FFXIII is the one of several of this late-winter A+ game-release bonanza, it still shines. The last real Final Fantasy story we had was FFX (c'mon, are you really gunna count 11 and 12?). FFX also was the first FF with voice-acting, and in general it was pretty bad. FFX also had a pretty linear gameplay; but it was still an excellent game. I'm in the beginning of Chapter 7, and it may not be the best FF, it's better than others, and still a great game. 12 hours in so far is enough to complete other games 2 times over nowadays (I do not mean Heavy Rain).

I enjoyed the FFXII plot. It was wildly complex to the point that it should have come with a cliffs notes, but it was still interesting and motivating.
What really bothers me about XIII is that Squenix came 95% of the way to an incredible game, but just completely lost it on the plot. The graphics are dumbfounding, the battle system is very innovative, there are plenty of new and fun features. It seems like compared to everything they accomplished the plot should have been easy, but what they used to carry an incredible system is pure crap. It's like a Ferrari Enzo with shit tires ...
I really feel like Square Enix failed on this one. In terms of plot it's the worst final fantasy yet.
BTW 23 hours in, still running away ...

I haven't played since I posted last, and I understand that eventually you do start gaining "experience" (at least the equivalent), but why wait so long? Also, apparently monsters don't re-spawn, so you can't really level up, anyway?

FFXII's plot was like 5 minutes long. 30 seconds of plot, 8 hours of mind-numbing grinding.
I don't know my current hours played, I didn't get a chance to play last night. But thus far I find the story interesting enough to want to learn more about the characters. It is also kind of linear, and maybe a bit easy (no penalty for death, but FFXII was far too much of a challenge IMO).

I could not find the characters much less interesting. In fact if they were any more flat the entire game would have to be animated like paper Mario. Hope is becoming incrementally more important to the story, which is irritating because I still want Hope to die a horrible death.
The monsters do actually re-spawn in most cases. And I didn't have to do any grinding at all in XII. To get any of the cool stuff you had to, but for the most part you could avoid it.

Anyone played this yet??
>.>; there's only a page and a half of us talking about it... Anyways, The things I don't like is the excessive CS and story telling.. I mean they look fabulous but I would play for 2 hours but 1 hour of it would be CS.. then some repetitive fighting.. then CS again.. I do not like how I cannot explore towns and go into shops.. and do sidequests.. I consider that such a big element in my previous FF game play.. I always loved a huge option of equipment.. and I don't understand the upgrades (like what's the difference between the 5142525 items except for their exp points?) I don't mind the plot though, but I get confused between the Falcie I'cie Pulse Falcie Pulse I'cie Purge Papaya Pomegranate.. Generally it's a mixed feeling.. I still play it.. but it's feels like grinding thru a long movie..

The item leveling system was ripped off from Disgaea. If it makes any sense in terms of what items give what result than that element has eluded me almost entirely. I miss towns too.
I thought of a good ending that would make the whole game worth while. Lighting gets struck by lighting ... and a car. Sazlbazzle puts on a blue banana, and it promptly dispatched by bloods. Vanille is raped by Snow, contracts AIDS, and dies. Fang, during a sexual session with Vanille, contracts AIDS, and is struck by a car. While punching something Snow dislocates his shoulder, becomes depressed, and kills himself with a plastic spoon.
Hope gets raped by everyone in the entire cast of every Final Fantasy. Even non-important characters in towns who say nothing more than "Nice weather we're having" will find their way to Hope to rape him savagely. Hope then falls into a rusty pile of used needles and contracts AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, more AIDS, Hepatitis, avola fever, cancer, diabetes and botulism .. and AIDS. After six horrendously painful years in a homeless shelter, a roof collapses and falls on him. Firefighters realize he is there, but just don't care. His screams for help are met by rocks being thrown at him. As the wreckage is cleared hopes barely living body is left there until a backhoe cuts off his legs in the process of removing debris. Hope is finally entombed and dies an agonizing death as he is burred in concrete mixed with chlorine and set on fire. The charred remains are then fed to bears. The resulting poop is recycled into fertilizer and used to grow apples that are fed to deer who are then fed back to the bears.
