Ok so my problem is this: I already have a fairly beefy computer..so playing FFXIV shouldn't be a problem (aside from your regular PC game stability issues). I also am looking to purchase a bluray player (which retail at 249.95). So since the new PS3 slim is only 299, I'm going to buy one. So should I get the PS3 version or the PC version? I would think that the PS3 version will run the smoothest and have the most optimised performance. Are there drawback to getting a console version? Any advice would be appreciated.

I think the biggest drawbacks to using a PS3 are that you won't be able to look things up on-the-fly as easily, and if there is no in-game voice chat (which seems really unlikely), then you'll probably have a harder time joining ventrillo for 3rd-party voice chat

I rarely looked things up when playing FFXI...never used ventrilo either....however, I would like to be able to do those things....so you can't use ventrilo on the PS3?

My PC IS next to my PS3 (as a matter of fact my PS3 currently shares one of my screens).
I'll probably choose the PC version, only because that's what I had before and it seemed to work out pretty well. FFXI also came out on PC before PS2 back then, which was a bit of a driving factor last time.

If you have a plasma tv, I would suggest getting any MMO for the pc. While the technology is always improving, long-term static images will age certain phospors a lot more quickly than others, thus leaving you with image retention.

Yeah but why would they give you a beta key for the ps3 version? How does that work? I may just get 4 more gigs of ram and my PC will be a monster....I'm still going to get a PS3 though. Who am I kidding? I still don't know which version I will get. Perhaps I will get both as you said.

You guys are killing me.... I'm starting to want this game. If I were going to get it I'd go PC, you always have more options on PC.
