PlayStation Blog Interviews the Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka and Sage Sundi. Some interesting tidbits in there, and really sounds like they're leaning towards a beta sooner rather than later. Interview highlights include:
  • Customize your character (skin color, hair, etc...)
  • Transfer your name from FFXI
  • Leveling system based on the "Armoury system"
  • Using a particular weapon will raise the associated skills for that class

Nothing terribly groundbreaking here. I have been following forum discussions where people have been dissecting what little information we have, and cross-referencing it with existing MMOs and FFXI to get an idea of what we can expect.

Your weapon defines your class, and there are probably skills associated with armor as well. Also a good chance that even "Chef" will offer some combat ability. (Can't change weapon in combat. So, suppose you are a fisherman and get aggro? Gotta fight somehow!)

Also, there is a lot of suspicion that Chocobos will be mules to carry inventory, seeing as how you will be carrying a lot of things, and inventory management will be crucial.
